Reading Curriculum
In our school we will be using two programs for reading.
Your child will receive 30 minutes of whole group instruction with Fundations and an hour of literacy block where students are working in small groups during this time. Working through differentiated instruction, all students will be working in small groups that will target their need.
Things to work on:
Please read with your child every night
Practice trick works (have your child write in shaving cream, sand, build with magnet letter or create a memory game)
Writing your first and last name
Write a complete sentence
Play a board game
- Fundations: Wilson Fundations makes learning to read fun while laying the groundwork for life-long literacy. Students in grades K-3 receive a systematic program in critical foundational skills, emphasizing:
- Phonemic awareness
- Phonics/ word study
- High frequency word study
- Reading fluency
- Vocabulary
- Comprehension strategies
- Handwriting
- Spelling

Math Curriculum
Our math program that is used is Everyday Math. Everyday Mathematics is a comprehensive Pre-K through Grade 6 mathematics program engineered for the Common Core State Standards. Developed by The University of Chicago, School Mathematics Project, the Everyday Mathematics spiral curriculum continually reinforces abstract math concepts through concrete real-world applications.
In the classroom math will consist of whole group everyday math, math centers as well as calendar.

rote counting to 120 by 1's, 2's, 5's and 10's,
