November News
Hello Families-
It’s hard to believe that we are entering the month of November already! We have begun to get our feet under us and amazing learning is happening in our short time at school. During the month of October we were busy reviewing letter formation and letter sounds and began blending, reading and writing CVC words. We also are working on our trick words. Please use the Fundations family letter that goes home as a guide to help support your child’s learning at home. We have also started small group instruction where I will be concentrating on specific reading needs with your child. There are times where your child will be bringing home a photocopied decodable book. I would encourage you to have your child read these books multiple times as continuous reading helps promote fluency, automaticity and comprehension. These simple readers also help build confidence in your child’s reading abilities.
Throughout the month of November your child will be learning about digraphs and glued sounds. Be on the lookout for your Fundations family letter.
Writing has also begun in our classroom and we are currently working on sentence formation as well as dictation.
In math we have been working on rote counting in multiples forms. By 1’s from any given number, 2’s up to 20, 5’s up to 120 and tens up to 120. We will continue to work on multiple strategies to support learning and also work on explaining our thinking in the math process. We will continue to work on multiple of 10 throughout the school year in various forms. We also continue to strengthen our understanding with number stories. Writing and counting tallies will be an area we spend time reviewing each day. A continuation of math tools exploration will be ongoing throughout the school year as we begin to learn multiple ways to use them to support our learning. The students have been using rekenreks and cuisenaire rods to help assist with addition and subtraction as well as number stories. Throughout the month of November we will be working with addition and subtraction with number stories as well as introducing missing addends.
In our EL, we will be moving into light and sound as well the moon phases. This ties in great with our time change and why it's darker in the winter. Of course we will talk and learn about the first Thanksgiving and how it came to be,
Remote Learning:
BOOM cards will be added to our google classroom as classwork. BOOM cards are interactive activities that are a follow through of what is currently being taught in the classroom. A parent information and your child’s log on information has been sent home. Please keep this login information with the others. Lexia and Happy numbers will continue to be used, however only once a week moving forward for the time being.
Thank you all who made it out for our virtual open house! Please remember to sign up for a parent / teacher conference though sign up genius.
